For the last few years, the smartphone segment has been a continuous year-on-year show down between Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. Each has been vying to lead the market. Whereas Android powers most of the smartphones currently, a section of users has given Apple a try after the release of the iPhone X. Switching phones isn’t just about popping out the SIM card from one device and putting it in another. It involves transferring some of your old stuff, and contacts too. So if you are coming from an Android device to an iPhone (God bless the X), this is how to quickly transfer all contacts from Android to iOS.

  • Using Gmail.

Having a Gmail account is almost mandatory if you have an Android decice. Gmail is pretty easy to sync all your contacts to it.

•Add your contacts to Gmail by navigating to Settings > Accounts > Google > Sync Contacts. This will sync all you contacts to your Gmail address book account.

•On your new iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts and Calendars > Add Account.

•Select Google and sign-in using the Google account with which you’ve synced your contacts. Make sure you have ‘Contacts’ enabled in the settings before the sync.

  • Use Move to iOS app.

Apple made its own app o make contact transfer from an Android to an iPhone even simpler. The app is available for download from the Play Store. The only caveat is that it works for iPhones that are set up from scratch. This simply translates that you have to reset the iPhone if you have been using it in order to use this app.

•When setting up the iPhone, an ‘Apps and Data’ window is displayed. Here, select ‘Move Data from Android.

•After agreeing to terms and conditions, the app shows a 10-digit code which has to be entered on the old Android device from which you wish to move the contacts.

•Once both phones are synced, you can select all the contacts you need to transfer.

  • Export with Contacts app.

Open up the native Contacts app on your Android smartphone and select Import/Export from more options. Here you can export some/all of your contacts to a VCF file, which can be then used to import the contacts to the iPhone.

  • Use third party apps.

There are so many third party Apps that can be used to move contacts from Android to iOS. Be sure to choose an app that is available on both platforms to make the process simpler for you. No matter what process you choose to use, you will be flying in a few minutes.
