In June this year at the Google I/O conference, Chrome and Android chief Sundar Pichai announced that Google will bring Android apps to Chrome OS. And today we get to see the first batch of apps including Vine, Evernote, a language teaching app called Duolingo and the children’s app Sight Words. All these four apps can now be run on Chrome OS using a mouse and keyboard. We see this as the beginning of a massive change for Chrome OS, which should ultimately make the operating system far more powerful and filled with a great selection of apps. All four apps will be available in the Chrome Web Store.
The goal is for all Android developers to be able to bring their apps over to Chrome OS with “little to no engineering effort” of course beyond perhaps a few interface changes. But now the Android maker is still working with particular developers to get these apps up and running.
