Qualcomm’s next Snapdragon 810 processor will do 450Mbps LTE Speeds

Qualcomm is keeping it’s self relevant for 2015 with it’s upcoming  processor dubbed the Snapdragon 810 expect it to grace most flagship Android smartphones next year.  It has already been rumored to feature in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy s6 and HTC M9. Today the company has announced on it’s official blog that it’s up coming beast of a processor will support even faster LTE networks with theoretical peak download speeds of 450 Mbps. It will do this with an upgrade of the chip to support Cat.9 (category) LTE devices. In comparison, the LTE networks here in Uganda support  Cat 3 phones and modems.

The previous generation Snapdragon 805 could support Cat.6 LTE, enabling 300 Mbps downloads in the best of conditions. The Snapdragon 810 will be able to achieve the 450 Mbps maximum speed because its modem will be able to utilize three 20 MHz carriers simultaneously, through carrier aggregation (CA). Obviously this won’t be possible here in Uganda because the regulator UCC apparently only plans to allocate 10 MHz of LTE spectrum per mobile operator since we have many of them in Uganda.

This will be Qualcomm’s first SoC (System on CHip) to feature Cat.9 LTE. And it will obviously be backwards compatible with earlier standards, such as 2G-GSM/EDGE and 3G- WCDMA/HSPA+. But between you and me, our LTE networks in Uganda still have a long way to go in order to keep up with the current avalanche and advancement in mobile device technology.
