Mozilla is trying out the first Firefox OS tablet prototype

In Africa we have had a chance to see Firefox mobile OS grow, since it’s one of  the company’s strong target markets. In June last year we saw a Firefox tablet made by Foxconn as an OEM,  and now we learn that Mozilla has begun testing its browser-based operating system on tablets and has developed its own tablet prototype. We have gotten our hands on Firefox Smartphone mobile OS and we are yet to get a feel of the tablet version of the OS.

The prototype we see above is also built by Foxconn-built and according to the spec sheet we have

    • 10-inch, 1280 x 800 display
    •  2GB of RAM
    • Quad-Core 1.0GHz processor
    • 16GB of internal storage with Micro SD card extension
    • WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities.
    • 2 MP Front and 5 MP rear cameras (resolution unknown)
    • GPS
    • Micro USB port
    • 7000mAh battery

All the specs above are not groundbreaking or high-end as we have been accustomed to by the Nexus 10 or Galaxy Pro Series as Firefox is focusing on affordability which has nowadays come to be known at a product for merging markets in the tech world. We are yet to see when these Firefox OS tablets come to commercial market.
