Next-Gen Xbox Series S is A lot Cheaper Than You Thought

Next-generation console gaming has been a cat and mouse chase between Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Sony’s PS5. The two contenders have unveiled all about their next-gen hardware but one surprise omission has always been pricing.

However, that is no more, at least when it comes to Microsoft’s all-digital Xbox Series S, a smaller, less powerful, and now cheaper version of the much beefier Xbox Series X, that Microsft has been touting lately.

We at least know Sony’s PS5 camp also has two consoles coming up, the standard PS5 and an all-digital PS5 that features no optical drive but maintains the same specs as the standard version. We assume this will be reflected in pricing, with the latter costing less than the former but Sony has been tight-lipped about pricing.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has gone on record in a tweet to announce that the new Xbox Series S will retail for $299, approximately around UGX 1.1M. This comes after a leak from the twitter user @_h0x0d_ suggested of the same price, in a much smaller form factor that Microsoft just confirmed will also be the smallest Xbox ever!

    Xbox Series S Specifications

Microsoft never mentioned the console’s specifications but the previous leak went ahead to expound on this as below.

    • 1440p up to 120fps
    • DirectX Raytracing
    • Variable Rate Shading
    • Variable Refresh Rate
    • Ultra-Low Latency
    • Custom 512GB SSD
    • 4K Streaming Media Playback
    • 4K Upscaling for Fames

Ideally, the Xbox Series S is what the Xbox One S is to the Xbox One X. A less-powerful but all-digital console, where one can enjoy next-generation gaming for cheaper.

If all these indications are true, the Series S won’t be able to output native 4K resolution like its beefier Xbox Series X brother, but rather will use upscaling technology to achieve that. However, 1440p is still fine if you asked. Both the consoles are said to launch on 10th November 2020.
