Everyone should be aware by now that Netflix does not or cannot run on certain devices, top of the list on this is the Huawei’s Mate 30 series phones– (at least for the Playstore version and hopefully just for now). This is all due to the US ban on the Chinese company. Side loading a random updated APK as a workaround doesn’t work if you’ve already tried that too. This is all part of Netflix’s DRM (Digital Rights Management).
Many music and video service providers use DRM to protect copyrights of the content they distribute. To explain it a bit more, Digital Rights Management (DRM) is software for authorizing the playback of copyrighted material. It is intended to protect copyrighted material from piracy, and is used in both physical DVDs and TV shows and movies that are available to watch instantly. Most of the time, you won’t even notice DRM. When DRM works right, the player decodes the protection and begins playback.

For those users who opt to side-load other Netflix APKs, there is still a way to watch your favorite shows but with some compromises. In our case our unit failed to install the recommended APKs throwing some errors. Whether you accept it or not, for now this are the only options:
- Streaming ONLY – this means you will need to have a data connection or be connected to a WiFi service to watch your shows and movies.
- No download option – no watch later – same as #1, only streaming is allowed.
- SD Quality only – Standard Quality Resolution. A resolution that sits in between the not HD quality and not very low quality. Video playback is still clear for viewing.
