Local ICT innovators are expected to showcase their innovations at the Uganda Institute of Information and Communication Technology grounds in Nakawa at the inaugural ICT Expo.
The Expo is a brainchild of the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance together with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), will have showcases across industries such as agriculture, health among others.
It is also expected to be graced by H.E President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the chief guest together with Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Government Officials, Development Partners, Academia, Private Sector, Civil Society, Innovators, Innovation Hubs, Venture Capitalists.
The event’s theme is Accelerating investment in digital innovation with the aim of encouraging the creation of inclusive and sustainable wealth, employment, development, and growth.
The outgoing minister of ICT, said the Expo also aims at promoting locally developed ICT innovations that have locally-developed ICT innovations that have been fostered within Uganda and expose the enabling environment that has facilitated this innovation to the public and private sectors.”
“The event will showcase the bountiful ICT innovation potential Uganda boasts, and the growing digital ecosystem that has been fostered by both Government endorsement — through programs like the National ICT Initiatives Support Program — and private sector investment. The exhibition will host incredible, locally-conceived and realized innovations at every point in the innovation process, from incubation to commercialization,” added Tumwebaze.
Amongst those expected to showcase are hubs currently receiving support from the government, including Hive Colab, Makerere Incubation, and Innovation Center (MIIC), CANTech, Outbox, Innovations Village among others.
Others expected to showcase include ride-hailing service, SafeBoda, Kiira Motors among others.
