What’s new with the Samsung One UI 2.0 update?

As we gear towards the release of the official Android Q update release from Google this August, Samsung is close to updating its One UI too with the second generation. It is now apparent that all Samsung phones coming with Android Q will have onboard version 2.0 of the One UI skin.

The sources also state that the Samsung Galaxy S11 will debut with One 2.1. It is worth noting that the inaugural One UI 1.0 made its debut with Android Pie and later came with version 1.1 on the Galaxy S10.

Not much has been said about the new features coming with the next release of One UI but we are certain that much of version 2.0’s appearance will relate with Android Q. For instance, Google announced a series of Digital Wellbeing improvements that at its I/O conference this year and these are likely to surface on the next Samsung phones.

Some of these include Focus Mode, a feature which will allow users to specify which apps they find most distracting and silence them when the feature is enabled; Smart Replies, which will work across all messaging apps in the system; and Dark Theme, which will give your phone a nighttime setting as well as reduce battery drain with its reduced bright light.

The first iteration of One UI brought with it many new functionalities such as Bixby Routines and a refreshed design. Unfortunately so many of the previous generations of devices are yet to benefit from these functionalities as the company plans on rolling out the new release.

Samsung is expected to unveil its new Galaxy Note smartphones on August 7, which is earlier than the official rollout of Android Q. This implies that the new Galaxy Note smawill initially run on One UI 1.1 based on Android 9.0 Pie, with a possibility to upgrade to One UI 2.0 by Q4 2019.
