The Tecno Spark 3 is just days old following the ravishing launch event that introduced the newborns to Uganda, where two variants of the line were put on the market. As soon as it became available, it couldn’t take us long to have the Spark 3 Pro – the bigger sibling of the series, for ourselves and the story so far is worth telling.
The new release has been creatively made to match the latest industry trends while sealing its position as the definite successor to last year’s Spark 2. Having a Pro version of the two phones implies that you get to experience every attribute of the device, and can only enjoy it at its best.

From the variety of colors available, we are lucky to be reviewing a Bordeaux Red model – an outstanding shade for a smartphone – and the mood is already turned on for the first impressions.
The First Impressions
Would you want to hold the Spark 3 Pro? Brace yourself for a really large screen display. Gone are the generations when Phablets and Notes were the only copyrighted big-screen devices, the times have changed.
A 6.2-inch display is by far an industry predominance and when the big boys are struggling to build sizeable mid-range devices for the African market, Tecno is quickly striving in the field. The Tecno Spark 3 Pro’s screen is interestingly wide enough to allow for bigger views, easier reading, and much more fun.
To the display, a notch is added – a close copy of the Camon 11 Pro – housing the 8 MP front camera sensor, a flash light and an earpiece. The bezels are just thin enough, something not worth worrying about on a six-point-something-incher, and the chin is beautifully curved at the bottom.
The backside is a glowing plastic non-removable back cover, beautifully designed to match the Pro status. A fingerprint sensor at the upper center and a dual camera setup at the top left add up to give the texture and polish a little more significance.
At the bottom is a mono speaker, a micro USB port, and a 3.5mm audio jack; the left has the dual SIM slot and a dedicated MicroSD Slot for ejection; while the right features the volume and power buttons.
What we like
Big Screen: The sight of the Spark 3 Pro reinvents any love you have left for tablet-like smartphones. It doesn’t matter what the size of your palm is, what matters is the grip of your fingers to it. Despite its width, the phone is decently light when held in motion and perfectly fits into your pockets.
Design: The adoption of a crystal design on the back cover, coupled with the smartly rounded edges on the phone, gives the Spark 3 Pro an attractive look. A beautiful and premium looking gadget is worth spending a penny on and this definitely a key selling point for the Pro.
Specifications: There is a lot packaged in the device to love about it; from the flagship AI bright camera, 4G LTE capability, a smart fingerprint sensor, intelligent Face ID, reliable battery, and heavy internal storage. We shall detail more of this in the device review.
Price: Did I mention that you’ll get it all at a price tag below UGX 500,000?
What we don’t like
The RAM: It is disappointing for a Pro-tagged handset to only have 2 GB of RAM. Couldn’t this have been better, Tecno? While the price calls for something in that range, we would expect the Tecno Spark 3 Pro to at least have 3 or 4 GB to it.
