UTL issues a statement assuring its subscribers about its interconnectivity woes with Airtel

Following a directive from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) entailing Airtel to suspend disconnection of calls to UTL, Uganda Telecom (UTL) has since issued a  public statement seen by this blog assuring its subscribers that they’ll continue making and receiving calls between Airtel and UTL.

The notice signed by UTL chairman, Stephen Kaboyo further clarifies that the issues at hand are being resolved to ensure no interruptions between the two telecoms and steps are being taken to meet service obligations by UTL.

Airtel came out yesterday and issued a statement allegedly accusing UTL that it owes it over UGX 8 Billion arising from unpaid interconnect fees and leased line services offered to the latter. The amount in question dates back to 2013 and the interconnect agreement between the two parties was terminated effective 1st October 2015.

However Airtel further asserted that they’re in round table discussions with UTL over the matter and we suppose today’s statement from UTL is as a result of those said discussions.
