Meet the World’s First true octa-core smartphone

Back in June we reported the first true octa-core processor chipset by MediaTek and today the first phone utilizing it has been unveiled. The UMI X2S broke cover at the Autumn Edition of Hong Kong Electronics Fair.

Unfortunate for us here in Africa, all of UMI’s phones are intended for the Chinese market and am very sure most of our readers have never heard of the UMI phone brand. The UMI latest X2S smartphone is powered by MT6592 chipset with an octa-core Cortex-A7 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM.

Other specs of this smartphone include

    • a 5 inch 1080p display,
    • 32GB internal storage,
    • a 13MP camera with Sony lens, and
    • NFC connectivity.
    • LTE-capable

There is no info on the pricing and availability yet, but the gadget is supposed to be very affordable, despite its fancy CPU. Recently Samsung announced that it will pimp up its current Exynos 5 Octa that resides in its flagship Galaxy line of devices. But we are still not sure if it will be via a firmware update, we still have our doubts.  What we are sure of expect polished Exynos 5 to feature in the next Samsung flagship aka Galaxy S5 sometime next year.
