MTN Uganda Launches MTNTV on Afromobile

Uganda’s New Streaming Powerhouse Just Dropped—and It’s Packed

MTN Uganda has officially switched on MTNTV, a full-blown digital entertainment platform that aims to change how Ugandans watch TV, listen to radio, stream movies, and catch live sports—all in one place. Built in partnership with Afromobile, the service rolls local and international content into a single seamless streaming experience available on phones, tablets, smart TVs, and web browsers.

More than 60 live TV channels, 53 radio stations, movies, series, kids’ shows, sports, exclusive African originals, and plenty of Ugandan-created content sit side-by-side. The idea is simple: watch what you want, when you want, wherever you are.

Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, framed the launch as more than just another app. “At MTN, we believe connectivity should unlock opportunities, experiences and possibilities,” she said. “As our customers embrace digital lifestyles, they are looking for more than access to the internet. They want quality entertainment, trusted information and content that reflects who they are. MTNTV delivers exactly that, while creating greater value for our customers and supporting the continued growth of Uganda’s creative economy.”

She added that the platform also opens a direct digital pipeline for Ugandan broadcasters, filmmakers, musicians, and creators to reach bigger audiences without the old distribution headaches. “Today, we are not simply launching a streaming platform. We are taking another step in MTN’s evolution as a technology company, delivering digital experiences that connect people not just to each other, but to opportunities, creativity and the content they love.”

Afromobile brought the content aggregation and streaming tech muscle. Kevin Kaija, General Manager of Afromobile, called the partnership a win for Africa’s digital content ecosystem: “MTNTV is more than a streaming platform. It is a gateway for African stories, creators and broadcasters to reach wider audiences through world-class technology. Together with MTN Uganda, we are making quality entertainment more accessible while supporting the continued growth of Uganda’s creative industry.”

Fred Otunnu, Director of Corporate Affairs at the Uganda Communications Commission, officiated the launch and positioned MTNTV as part of the country’s wider digital push. “The future of Uganda’s digital economy will be shaped not only by the networks we build, but by the digital services, local content and innovations that those networks enable,” he noted. “We welcome initiatives such as MTNTV that empower creators, expand consumer choice and contribute to building an inclusive and vibrant digital ecosystem.”

Access comes in two flavors. MTN customers with an active data bundle get a solid free (Freemium) library. Premium unlocks the full catalogue with flexible daily, weekly, or monthly plans. Premium users can also download titles for offline viewing, stream on up to three devices at once, and set up multiple profiles for a more personalized experience.

The platform is already leaning into live local moments. As part of the launch, MTNTV is sponsoring King Saha’s Tondeka e’ Kololo concert on 14 August 2026. The show will stream live on the service and later land as video-on-demand—another signal that MTNTV wants to sit at the center of Uganda’s biggest entertainment events while boosting local artists.

For MTN Uganda, MTNTV is the latest piece in a broader digital lifestyle play that already spans connectivity and fintech. The company is betting that putting quality entertainment, local stories, and convenient access under one roof will keep customers inside its ecosystem longer—and give Uganda’s creative industry a stronger digital stage at the same time.
