As Android Phones get bigger Nokia doesn’t want to be left behind Smartphone size increments, once there were 4-inch display screens which seemed big by then, and now phones have grown bigger inches in size. In Abu Dhabi today Nokia is announcing its largest devices yet — two new Lumias; the new Lumia 1520 (along with its low-end counterpart, the Lumia 1320) all featuring a massive 6-inch display, making it the largest Windows Phone ever released. Unlike the 1320 the 1520 is also the first Windows Phone with a 1080p screen and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor and this puts it at par with higher end phones.
The higher end 1520
Nokia has decided to retain its usual Lumia design with the 1520 — using a single piece polycarbonate that looks like a bigger version of the Lumia 720 — and build quality. The new LCD display will be bright and vibrant, with great viewing angles and deep blacks.
One think we like about Windows Phone 8, is that its a robust OS that just flies irrespective of the hardware you put it. No imagine the same OS on Nokia’s 1520’s quad-core, 2.26GHz processor and 2GB of RAM we predict blazing fast. Nokia notes that while most users won’t notice the added horsepower in basic tasks, it is beneficial when editing video or playing intensive games. The only two phone with the same raw power are the LG G2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 already, both running Android, and it has proven to be quite the performer. The new large screen phone is also run on a 3,400mAh battery, built-in wireless charging, and support for LTE networks.
No stylus support yet
This phone is almost on tablet territory in terms of size but, the 1520 doesn’t have a stylus or other form of input apart from the standard touchscreen. The sad part is that Nokia insists that they donot see a need for it for the use cases for this phone, and that it was not worth the tradeoff in size required to accommodate the stylus in the phone’s body. The phone will come with an Apple like Smartcover flip cover that turns into a stand for the phone.
20-megapixels bleeding of of Nokia’s PureView camera technology
For the camera, Nokia is using a new, lower-resolution version of its 41-megapixel PureView sensor with 20 megapixels. Equipped with optical image stabilization and the PureView capabilities of zooming in after you take a picture without a loss of quality. The PureView zoom level is limited to 2x on the 1520, as opposed to the 3x zoom on the 41-megapixel Lumia 1020.
