Exclusive: Unwanted Witness petitions UCC to investigate MTN and Africell Uganda over fraudulent charges

The Unwanted witness Uganda last week petitioned the communications regulator UCC to investigate the dubious and continuous illegal billing of consumers by MTN Uganda and Africel Uganda, for both voice and data without any service offered.

In a letter to the sent to the commission,  the non partisan and non-profit organization claims that it has gathered detailed evidence to pin down these two telecos on the above charges. Check out the detailed letter below.

When we reached out to the regulator in regards to this matter in a tweet, the said;

 

 

The Unwanted Witness (UW)is an initiative established by Geoffrey Wokulira Ssebaggala an award winner of the European Union (EU) Human Rights Defender Award 2013. “Ssebaggala won the Human Rights Defenders’ Award 2013 for his diligent work in recording and highlighting restrictions of freedom of expression and association in Uganda, including attacks on journalists. Mr. Ssebaggala tirelessly works to help journalists in distress and publicise their plight. He has provided steadfast leadership to Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-Uganda) to stand firm against the victimization of journalists in a challenging environment” Said European Union Delegation to Uganda.

Unwanted Witness as a non partisan and non-profit organisation uses different media tools to amplify voices of the poor and vulnerable groups and add an active voice to initiatives that work towards demanding and promoting democratic governance.
