WhatsApp shuts down users of 3rd party clients like WhatsApp Plus

WhatsApp has today released an official statement declaring war on users of third-party clients like WhatsApp Plus and WhatsApp MD. The company has started instituting 24-hour bans for users of the spin-off  messaging services. It was only a matter of time before action was taken. According to the official statement acknowledging the ban via a support FAQ on its website. It states

[signoff predefined=”Custom Signoff Box” icon=”pencil”]WhatsApp Plus is an application that was not developed by WhatsApp, nor is it authorized by WhatsApp. The developers of WhatsApp Plus have no relationship to WhatsApp, and we do not support WhatsApp Plus. Please be aware that WhatsApp Plus contains source code which WhatsApp cannot guarantee as safe and that your private information is potentially being passed to 3rd parties without your knowledge or authorization.[/signoff]

The only way to avoid the situation is by uninstalling these unauthorized applications and installing the official app. Most of these 3rd party apps had basically unlocked most capabilities that the official Whatsapp client doesn’t support like having more than 50 people in a group, stay in incognito mode (appear to be offline), ability to customize the user interface (UI) with several themes and a lot more.

This is likely to be baffling new for users of these third-party apps, but truth be told, it shouldn’t come as a big surprise. All these apps have to be side loaded since they are not officially on the Google Play store.
