UCC to host Africa child online protection (ACOP) Summit

It’s clear that children are the future of this great nation so how can we protect the African child from the flaws of the internet like cyber-crimes especially those that target them? On December 15th at Speke Resort Munyonyo, the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) will play host to the Africa child online protection (ACOP) Summit . The summit is aimed at identifying the risks and vulnerabilities to children in cyberspace as well as create awareness and share knowledge and experience.

The Summit will also deal with issues such as legal, technical, organizational and capacity building as well as international cooperation to efficiently and thoroughly combat cyber-crime targeting children. Children’s vulnerability in an online environment makes them an easy target for cyber criminals. It is in this regard that International Telecommunications Union has created Child Online Protection (COP) as a special initiative within its GCA to specifically tackle children’s online security.

The Child Online Protection is championed by Nigeria’s First Lady and President of African First Ladies Peace Mission, Dr Dame Patience Jonathan.
