    YAKA 2022: Check out the new Electricity tariffs that UMEME will charge

    For the quarter of January till March 2022.

    The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has reviewed and approved new electricity tariffs for 2022 in accordance with the principles of tariff calculation and the terms of supply of the licensees in the Electricity Supply Industry.

    Due to the amendment of tariff targets for UMEME Limited and Eskom Uganda Limited, the 2022 tariff base has been revised. The new tariff rates are applicable for the first quarter of January 2022 until March 2022.

    The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) has also approved a new qualification criteria for the lifeline tariff such that only domestic customers whose consumption does not exceed 100 units per month based on six months running average shall qualify to purchase the first 15 units charged at a lifeline tariff of UGX 250 per kWh. The qualification criteria for the lifeline will be reviewed from time to time by the Authority.

    Large Industrial and Extra Large Industrial has both of which are high voltage 11,000 volts or 33,000 volts with maximum demand exceeding 500 kVA but up to 1,500 kVA and has now been split into two blocks, Block 1 and Block 2 respectively. The Block 2 (Declining Block) Tariff of Large and Extra-Large Industrial Consumers shall be applicable to the energy consumed above the threshold determined by ERA for the respective consumers. The thresholds shall be communicated to the respective consumers by Umeme Limited.

    It should be noted that Electricity retail base tariffs are subject to quarterly adjustment to reflect changes in micro-economic cost drivers. See detailed tariffs below;

    The schedule of electricity end-user retail tariffs shall be applicable to all consumer bills raised based on meter readings taken from January to March 2022 for customers on the postpaid billing system.

    Other charges such as fixed monthly charges, maximum demand charges, inspection fees, new connection charges, reconnection fees, and penalties for electricity theft remain unchanged
