Airtel Money system crashes making it impossible to carry out some transactions

Airtel Uganda recently announced through their communications channels that they had waived all transaction charges on their Airtel money platform, this offer now enables people send money to their loved ones and support them through this coranavirus pandemic period. The offer was valid until 19th April 2020. Its been seven days since they made this announcement and things now seem to have backfired. Well, at least technically.

Seems the service has been overwhelmed by the volume of transactions in some Airtel Money services especially now that people are in quarantine and trying to load the affordable Freaky Friday data bundles. This seems to have overloaded the Mobile Money gateway. Currently, there are some interruptions that are affecting data loading through Airtel Money.

When contacted, Airtel has come out to validate this in a tweet, and has said that their teams are working towards resolving the issue so that customers can continue to load data using the Airtel Money service. They promised to notify all their customers once service has been restored.

Other mobile money services are still working normally and mobile money transaction fees across networks still  stand and customers will have to pay these charges. Additionally, mobile money withdrawals charges are still intact.

Coronavirus  is spreading fast and many governments, both at the National and County  level, are aggressively sensitizing citizens through various platforms on ways to keep themselves safe from the virus. Keep safe by following  the doctor’s directives. Quarantine, disinfect, drink a lot of water and wash your hands frequently with soap.
