It’s close to three months now, and the messaging app WhatsApp has started cracking down on altered version of the app mostly GBWhatsApp and WhatsApp Plus with a temporary ban of users having them and a lot of memes have sprung up ever since the ban started.
A lot of people have lost their chats history due to this ban and others who are still using the app are scared to switch to the supported copy of WhatsApp because of the possibility of losing their chat history, however according to the FAQ page of the Facebook owned messaging app “ your account might be permanently banned from using the platform if you don’t switch to the official app.”
In this article, we are going to show you how to switch from the unsupported GBWhatsApp to the official WhatsApp copy without losing your data.

How to switch to the official WhatsApp app
1. Open Whatsapp GB and go to Back up your Chats. To reach there Go to Settings > Chats > Chat Backup
2. Backup your files locally, make sure you have enough space in your phone, at least 500MBs space free in your phone or SD Card.
3. Tap on back up and wait for it to the process to complete, it doesn’t take long if you are using a stable internet.
4. Install The official copy WhatsApp from Google Playstore, do not open it yet.
5. Navigate to the Whatsapp folder from the file manager in your phone and Create a folder called “databases” in the folder.
7. Go to GBwhatsapp folder on your file manager and Look for a folder called “Databases”
8. Open it and copy the files you see inside to the database folder you created earlier in the WhatsApp folder.
9. Launch WhatsApp, and go through the registration process, you should get a prompt to restore your chats.
10. If you don’t get the prompt, under your phone settings navigate to settings and under apps manager look for Whatsapp and Clear the cache and Try again the process.
