MOGO, Airtel Uganda partner to launch smartphone loans

MOGO Uganda has partnered with Airtel Uganda to offer a new way for people to get smartphones without paying everything upfront. This isn’t just about selling phones—it’s about helping more Ugandans get connected and take part in the digital world.

Many Ugandans want smartphones but can’t afford to pay the full price at once. MOGO and Airtel are changing that. With their new plan, you can get a Tecno, Infinix, or itel smartphone by paying just 28% of the phone’s price to start. After that, you can pay the rest in small amounts—some plans cost as little as UGX 848 per day! That’s less than a cup of coffee in Kampala.

This offer is simple and flexible. You can choose to pay the remaining balance every day, week, or month, for up to a year (52 weeks). You don’t need to bring any collateral or go through a long process. Just bring your national ID and a SIM card that uses mobile money. Approvals usually take less than 15 minutes, and you can apply at any Airtel shop or with a MOGO agent.

When you buy a phone through this offer, Airtel gives you 3GB of data every month for three months—for free! That means you can start using the internet right away, whether for school, business, or staying in touch with friends and family.

MOGO’s Marketing Manager, Douglas Kikonyogo, says this partnership is a “game-changer” for Uganda. Many people in rural areas still use basic phones, but smartphones are becoming more important as more services go online. The biggest problem has been the high cost. This offer makes smartphones affordable, helping more people access tools for learning, work, and communication.
