Huawei Technologies’ DigiTruck project has successfully equipped over 1000 individuals in the Teso Sub-region of Uganda with crucial digital skills.
Launched in October 2023 and completed in January 2024, the project has played a pivotal role in enabling youth, women, Jua-kalis, local district officers, and more to engage in e-commerce, effectively market their produce, and contribute to the digital transformation of the region.
The DigiTruck project, part of Huawei’s broader ICT Talent Development program, has covered all 11 districts in the Teso sub-region. A total of 1,139 beneficiaries are now equipped with ICT skills, poised to leverage them for personal and community development.
The project aligns seamlessly with Uganda’s 2040 vision, National Development Plan, and Education Digital Agenda Strategy, reflecting a commitment to transforming the nation into a digital village.
The digital skills imparted through the DigiTruck program empower individuals to actively participate in the digital economy, ultimately contributing to the overall growth and prosperity of the Teso sub-region and the nation at large.

The Chief Guest, H.E Jessica Alupo, emphasized the importance of the youth in Uganda’s development and commended the graduates for completing the DigiTruck program.
She highlighted the government’s commitment to the National Youth Policy, encouraging the beneficiaries to utilize their acquired ICT skills to improve their lives and communities.
H.E Alupo called for continued support, urging the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development to provide ICT equipment for ongoing practice and sensitization programs for the youth.
She also praised Huawei Uganda for its contribution to ICT Talent Development in the Teso sub-region, expressing gratitude for reaching over 1100 beneficiaries across the 11 districts.
Hon. Rose Lilly Akello, Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity, thanked Huawei for supporting Uganda through ICT skilling and advised the youth to use their skills responsibly for personal and societal development.
Mr. Hillary Businge, speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Gender, Labor, and Social Development, celebrated the graduates as the reason for the collective gathering, emphasizing inclusivity in the digital era.
Huawei Uganda’s Subsidiary Board Director, Mr. Yi Junsong (Jason), highlighted the success of the DigiTruck project under the TECH4ALL initiative, training almost double the planned beneficiaries in Teso sub-region.
He expressed hope that the acquired skills would elevate livelihoods in the region and thanked the Vice President and local leadership for their continuous support.
