    Huawei kicks off 2023-24 ICT Competitions in Uganda

Huawei Technologies Uganda recently launched its 2023-2024 ICT Competitions and the awarding ceremony for the champions of the 2022-2023 Global ICT Competitions.

    Huawei, a global leader in ICT solutions, has been at the forefront of talent development campaigns in Uganda. The recent launch of the 2023-2024 Huawei ICT Competitions and the awarding ceremony for the 2022-2023 champions is a testament to their commitment to nurturing talent in the country.

    The Vice President of Uganda, H.E Jessica Alupo, graced the occasion, launching the new competition and awarding the brilliant minds that secured Uganda’s 2nd position in the global arena of the previous year’s competition.

    Huawei’s dedication to talent development is evident in their goal to skill up over 700,000 ICT professionals by the end of 2023. The primary objectives of these initiatives are to bridge the existing ICT talent gap, foster academia-industry communication, and catalyze the digital transformation of various industries.

    The impressive 2nd position clinched by Uganda in the 2022-2023 Huawei ICT Competitions not only elevated the nation’s flag but also showcased the potential and prowess of young Ugandan ICT talents on the global stage.

    In her address, the Vice President lauded the exceptional students for elevating Uganda’s reputation in the ICT competitions. She emphasized the significance of such platforms, highlighting that many outstanding participants have secured employment opportunities with Huawei and other esteemed organizations.

    H.E Alupo underscored the potential of ICTs in creating opportunities for Ugandans, urging more to participate and leverage these platforms. Concluding her speech, she expressed gratitude to Huawei Uganda for their unwavering support and for providing young Ugandans with a global platform to showcase their ICT talents.

    She also wished the participants of the 2023-2024 competitions the best of luck.

    Mr. Gao Jian, Deputy Managing Director Huawei Uganda provided insights into the essence of the Huawei ICT Competition, describing it as an international platform designed for students to engage in healthy competition and exchange ideas.

    This, he believes, augments their ICT knowledge, practical skills, and innovation capabilities. Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to the Ugandan government, partners, and the people, Mr. Gao emphasized the collective vision of bridging the digital divide in Uganda.

    He concluded with a poignant statement, “Let us all join hands to have a fully connected and intelligent world through the use of the latest emerging technologies. We trust that once we have a better you, we will all have a better Uganda.”
