In this review, you can find out everything you need to know before you buy a Camon 19 Pro, from details on its display and design to how we found its camera system, performance and battery life.

Tecno Camon 19 Pro Review: Price and what’s new

The Tecno Camon 19 Pro is priced at UGX 1,200,000 and is available in Tecno branded, MTN branded, Banana Phone World outlets across the country and on online platforms like Jumia Uganda.

Following on from the Camon 18 Premier, which was released in the last quarter of 2021, the Camon 19 Pro introduces some significant upgrades, especially on the design and camera capabilities while maintaining its status as the brand’s flagship smartphone.

The screen is slightly bigger at 6.8-inches, while the camera system is made up of a 64MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto camera and a 2MP depth sensor which are complemented by a quad-LED flash alongside other advanced camera modes and settings.

Under the hood, you’ll find the Mediatek MT6781 Helio G96 processor, the same that the 18 Premier possessed, and a 5000mAh battery as opposed to the 4,740mAh battery in the predecessor.

    Design and display

The Camon 19 Pro has a 6.8-inch IPS LCD display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a resolution of 1080p. At its price tag, this is a good deal given that other devices with the same refresh rate are priced slightly higher.

The high refresh rate makes using the display more to watch YouTube videos and playing games very fluid. We didn’t find any issues using the phone outdoors, as the display is just fine. Plus, the size of the display makes viewing content more enjoyable since it has small bezels and a chin around the display.

Marked at 0.98mm, the phone has one of the thinnest bezels of any smartphone in its price range, which unique design won it the iF Design Award 2022. Continuing with the design, the 19 Pro has a matte plastic finish that makes it comfortable to hold.

This goes on to the rear of the phone, where the main camera set up lies. You can’t fail to fall in love with the texture on the back of the phone and even use the phone without a case. On the left side of the phone, you’ll find the fingerprint scanner which doubles as an unlock key. Obviously, it’s fast and responsive, with the volume rockers are located just above it.

We have a USB-C port and a headphone jack on the bottom. At the top of the phone is another speaker that sits on top of the plastic frame due to the phone’s tiny bezels.

    Tecno Camon 19 Pro Cameras

Packing a three-lens rear camera system made up of a 64MP main sensor, a 50MP telephoto camera and a 2MP depth sensor, the Camon 19 Pro does really capture some amazing photography.

Well contrasted with an accurate representation of colour, the shots looked great even when I was snapping on an out-of-the-normal day. This could be attributed to the RGBW sensor, laser autofocus and optical image stabilization attached to the new phone’s setup.

There are many fun features in the camera’s viewfinder, including the Super Night mode, which captures some incredibly detailed shots at night. However, one thing is that you have to wait a few seconds after taking pictures with the super night mode.

Another key update we noted was that the portrait mode on the device is very good for both people and objects. Not to forget, the selfie camera is excellent too and there is no other phone in its price range that offers something like that.

    Software and Performance

The Camon 19 Pro is one of the first and only Tecno phones to run on Android 12. It’s also worth mentioning that it is the first from the brand to receive the Android 13 update when it’s available to the general public. Refreshing, isn’t it?

The device’s user interface is the new HiOs 8 which has been refined as well. Visibly, icons and fonts look changed and the phone comes with 8GB of RAM which can be expanded to 11GB with some storage space.

In the Settings, there are many adjustments that you can make. For instance, if you want to increase RAM, you’ll need to navigate to the Special Features tab in Settings. There are also other features that you can use to clone apps.

From the time we have held this device, we can authoritatively state that the performance is decent, multitasking and gaming are handled brilliantly. You can play demanding games like Call of Duty, Need for Speed, PUBG and more.

The Mediatek MT6781 Helio G96 chipset in the phone is based on a 12-nanometer processor and the Mali-G57 MC2 is the GPU. This guarantees quality performance and you won’t notice any lag while using it.

The Tecno Camon 19 Pro 5G packs a 5000mAh battery and also supports 33W fast charging – what makes a device stand out more if not great battery life. It takes about an hour to charge the phone from zero to a hundred. It lasts over 8 hours if you’re a heavy user, but it can last even longer if you turn off the 120Hz refresh rate.

    Verdict

For a mid-range handset, the Tecno Camon 19 Pro does pretty well across the board. If you’re interested in taking photos and videos with your phone, you won’t go wrong buying this beauty. The phone also has a unique look that will get people staring when you’re outside.

When you take the price into consideration, everything about it is impressive. Sleek and stylish with a big enough screen, solid performance and incredible battery life, you get a lot for your money.
