    How to hide Netflix content from your viewing history and make it forget

    Renewing your recommendations list

    Recently, I had no idea that one could actually make Netflix forget what they watch if you know where to look– well, now I know. We all have friends who visit or stay with us and end up watching series and movies on our Netflix accounts. You will spend a lot of time flitting past worthless recommendation after worthless recommendation because, while you’d enjoy a frothy dramedy, your taste is different from your friends, and Netflix always fails to grasp that.

    What you will need is a “forget what you just saw” button on Netflix. But when you’re using the Netflix app on your phone, tablet, set-top box, TV, or even, if that’s a thing you do, your Facebook Portal, there is no button to forget what you have seen. There is just the ruin of your recommendations on your account after your friend’s visit.

    If are successful at hiding titles from your viewing history;

    • They won’t appear in Netflix as a TV show or movie you’ve watched.
    • They won’t be used to make recommendations to you, unless you watch them again.
    • They’ll be removed from the Continue Watching row.

    Truth be told, hiding your titles isn’t easy. First, you have to be looking at Netflix on a browser. From a web browser, go to your Account page. Then open Profile & Parental Controls for the profile you want to update. Open Viewing Activity for that profile. On the Activity page, click the “hide icon” next to the episode or title you want to hide. If you hide an episode, you’ll see the option to hide the entire series. To hide all of your viewing history, select the Hide all option at the bottom of the page and confirm. It should be noted that the process can take up to 24 hours for a hidden title to be removed from all your devices. Titles can’t be hidden if the Activity page is reached from a Netflix Kids profile.

    If there’s just something you started watching and want to be removed from your “Continue Watching” queue, there’s an actual “Remove from Continue Watching” button available, too, but it’s limited to certain TV apps, the web browser, and some mobile apps.

    The company announced recently that it had lost 200,000 subscribers for the first time in a decade, and it seems open to doing a lot of things that it had rejected– including introducing ads as well as monetizing account sharing.
