    US-based Hamilton Telecom applies for another license from UCC

    Rumors of Hamilton Telecom applying for a telecom license have been buzzing since 2017. After long rumors of a possible UTL acquisition, the US-based telecom has applied to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) for yet another license to provide telecom services Nationwide in Uganda under the name Hamilton Telecom Limited. The company has applied for a National Service Provider License (NSP). This comes in the latest gazette where UCC announced other companies like Blue Crane Communications Limited, Cloud Core Systems Limited, and United Wireless Holdings Limited have applied for an operating license.

    Hamilton Telecom previously acquired a Data and voice Public Service Provider (PSP) license, which gave the illusion like they wanted to become some kind of Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) with no telecom infrastructure of their own just like k2 telecom or even have the option use UTL’s infrastructure. Hamilton Cloud Services (HCS), became Uganda’s first local cloud service provider to finalize an agreement to colocate their servers in Raxio Data Centre’s state-of-the-art, always-on data center at the Kampala Industrial and Business Park, Namanve.

    Hamilton Telecommunications is a US-based telecom that is the driving force behind products and services that touch all 50 states, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and even Saipan. Hamilton is a diversified communications and technology services provider based in Aurora, Nebraska. Founded in 1901 as a local telephone cooperative serving Hamilton County the company has grown to encompass seven primary company divisions, operating on a local, regional, and national basis. Today, Hamilton is one of the leading independent communications companies in the U.S.

    As part of the application process, the communication regulator seeks opinions and comments from the public in regards to Hamilton Telecom’s application which is expected within a period of two weeks. UCC will only grant the license after the expiry of the stated time they receive no comments or opinions.
