In Uganda the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) extended the SIM card registration deadline to mid this year. In a move to strengthening the law against unlawful use of mobile phones. “We are working on technical modalities before we fully embark on this exercise since it is not an easy task.I hope we will be able to make it within six weeks,” said The TCRA Director General, Prof John Mkoma.

The fine for selling unregistered SIM cards will not exceed 300,000/- (TZ Shillings) or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months. The Tanzanian telecoms regulator has also announced that the registration has been accomplished by at least 93 % ,and the backlog will soon be cleared as we launch this operation.
