Azam TV to switch off local television channels

Local TVs much as they could be scooped freely using FTA decoders, they play a larger role in attracting and retaining subscribers, especially prominent ones. With the election season looming, Azam TV seems to have lost some key channels that could draw customers, who would want to keep abreast of what is happening around them.

What channels has Azam TV lost

Africa Broadcasting Uganda’s Channels like NTV Uganda and Spark are seeing an axe. Added to this list are Bukedde TV2, TV West, both owned by Vision Group and then Delta TV, ABS TV, BBS Telefayina and lastly Baba TV.

Azam cites compliance with a UCC directive as the reason behind the move but offers no further explanation. On asking why and when the said TV stations, Azam TV was quick to let us know that they will be back when UCC tells them so.

Why would UCC or the switch off?

It is very hard to tell but we can only speculate for now. Maybe Azam TV is not delivering on its side of the bargain in terms of compliance with the regulator, maybe it’s carriage fees that haven’t been met, it could be anything but most likely around regulation.

Away from this, the satellite TV player still has other local channels to keep you entertained and up to date like NBS, UBC, Bukedde TV1, Urban TV among others.
