You might have to wait longer for the iPhone 12

Every September, Apple takes the wraps off its latest iPhones to too much fanfare that eventually translates to sales. However, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the tech giant has had to pushback the launch of its upcoming iPhone 12 by about “ a few weeks”, reports Bloomberg. This most likely due to supply chain issues and projected low demand.

Other sources like Nikkei are even suggesting that Apple is considering putting off production completely. The Wall street journal is even weighing in by saying the iPhone 12 delays could even shoot up to about a month, citing a weaker demand and supply chain issues in Asia caused by COVID-19.

The iPhone is Apple’s cash cow accounting for over 61% of its revenue much as we’ve seen it push more into services. These account for about 14% of its revenue but every new iPhone owner out there can be a potential services customer, but still, hardware remains the biggest driver to make this happen. The iPhone leads that hardware.

The iPhone 12 was said to usher 5G in Apple’s iPhone but enthusiasts might have to wait a little longer given the supply chain issues that are costing delays.

Other potential issues that might affect the iPhone 12’s launch are reduced consumer demand due to the economic uncertainty roaming around. The iPhone is considered a luxury so why upgrade to a new one if your current one is still working fine? Also, why consider buying a $1000 iPhone when you’re not even sure of a job tomorrow?

All the above have been cited as potential reasons as to why the iPhone 12 might miss the September 2020 launch window as has been the case with previous iPhones.
