Facebook has launched a new dedicated Gaming app is now available on Android. The app has been launched two months earlier than its planned June release. The social media giant aims to ensure that users are kept entertained through the current global pandemic as several people world over are in quarantine.
Facebook’s huge gaming investment has reportedly been culminated in more 700 million of the sites’s 2.5 billion users actively playing games through the platform monthly. The launch of a devoted gaming app is a clear next step for content that has, until now, been the domain of the site’s Gaming tab.
The main focus for the gaming app is meant for social engagement and there will also be an iOS version at some point in the near future. The delay in launching the iOS app is still pending Apple approval. The app’s head Fidji Simo has told the Techcrunch that;
“It’s entertainment that’s not just a form of passive consumption but entertainment that is interactive and brings people together. We’re seeing a big rise in gaming during quarantine.”
The Facebook Gaming app follows industry leaders like Twitch and YouTube who also have the gaming Go Live streaming feature. Facebook is now backing on the huge number of subscribers on its platform to measure the success of its own Live offering, which is currently seeing high levels of usage of people under lockdown during the COVID-19 shutdown. Live streaming is the key feature upon launching the app.
It should be noted that this 51.47MB Android gaming app comes with a lot of in app purchases and if you cannot see it in your current PlayStore, now no worries those are just geographical restrictions.
