Exclusive: Simba Food exits food delivery service market

    Less competition

Simba Food, a company that had come to give Jumia food a run for their money has exited the food delivery service market exactly two years since its launch. In 2018, the company was the new food delivery service akin to Jumia food since both are more like brothers and sisters but from different parents.

Simba food Uganda officially closed shop on 13th Jan 2020, due to low sales as the food delivery market was very difficult to penetrate. The company has done it all from outdoor billboards, office to office marketing and social media traction but in vain as few orders being made.

According to our sources, in some cases Simba food actually faced as lot of difficulty during their marketing activations. They were denied access from property managers like Knight Frank who manage some of the public high end malls.

When compared to Jumia Foods, they both shared a some of the restaurants if not all and it was hard to trace any differentiation between the two. They almost serve the same cuisines but by comparison Jumia Food offered more than Simba Food and also does fresh groceries and alcoholic beverages through Jumia Fresh and Jumia Party respectively. Something Simba Foods never had at the time.

Both have special deals and offers but Jumia food goes an extra mile of offering a live in-app customer care interaction but all in all the core service remains food delivery.

The biggest difference that Simba Foods had to bring to the table was the quality of service which Jumia Food has as well given its incumbent position but like in any industry, competition is good.
