It’s close to the end of the year and usually the remaining last months are days for sharing for most of us. It is not about having internet data all by yourself but being able to share data with those in need of it around you most times.
Most of the top tier telecom companies have the option to allow you share data with your loved ones and today we are going to help document for you how to share Internet data on Airtel, MTN and Africell.
How to share data on Airtel
Airtel Uganda has a list of options one can use when they want to share with a friend or colleague. The most popular and the household option is the “Tugabane” which translates to Let’s share in the local dialect. Here is the list of options you can choose when you want to share data across the Airtel network.
Tugabane(Share Data)– Tugabane is one of the best data sharing platforms and innovations to ever come out of the red tent and works more like a WiFi hotspot over a long distance. It allows a user(one mobile data subscriber) to add up to four other users to surf from the same internet bundles he/she has purchased. Another fun fact is that the beneficiary can use it regardless of their location, meaning they can Roam while abroad.
To activate Airtel’s Tugabane, You dial *175*5# and choose Option 1: Tugabane.

Go ahead in option 1 Activate and add mobile numbers you want to benefit from your data and you’re good to go.

Data Me 2 U – This allows you to share your already purchased Airtel Data Bundle. “giving out” or “sharing” from an already purchased data bundle from an “owner customer” to other customers. In this case, the given out bundle will reside in the other customer’s wallet. Only one customer can be Me2U’d at a time.
To use the me2U data sharing option, dial *175*5# and choose option 2. Enter the Phone number of the beneficiary and later the amount of data you want to share. Keep in mind, you can’t me2u a friend or colleague you already have in your Tugabane list.
Gifting: Buying a data bundle plan from the “owner customer” to another customer; data bundles in this category includes all the bundles listed on Airtel’s list of bundle plans. To gift your friend or family data is as easy as buying for yourself data. Dial *175*6# and follow the prompts.
How to Share Data on MTN Uganda
MTN Uganda, on the other hand, doesn’t have a lot of options to offer in this spectrum but the little they should really be working for their customers. On top of being able to purchase for another number of data, there are two data sharing options to fill in the void for those people who are in need of sharing.
Internet Me2U: Like the counterpart up there, MTN’s Internet Me2U allows you to share an already purchased data bundle from your number to your friend or family number.
To send MBs using Internet Me2U to another MTN number is as simple as dialing *150*1# and selecting option 6 – Me2U. You will be prompted to choose between Airtime and Data. Enter the phone number and the amount of data you would like to share and it’s all done.
MTN InternetShare- MTN InternetShare a service that enables MTN customers to buy and share Internet bundles with another MTN customer. It’s not the cheapest option out here for data sharing but has some of its benefits which you can use to your advantage. Top of the list is you can set usage limits for the different numbers activated which can be helpful when you’re on a budget for your beneficiaries. You can as well share an Internet bundle with up to 5 different users who may be in any part of the country.
The only downside you have to first purchase a monthly Internet Share bundles which is a bit pricey for that bouquet option.

To buy and use the MTN Internet Share Option, Dial *150*70# and follow the prompts. Keep in mind, a customer can only be a beneficiary of one shared bundle at a time.

Africell Uganda
Africell Uganda on the hand doesn’t offer data sharing yet but allows a customer to buy a bundle for a colleague or family when buying bundles. To buy a bundle for a friend, dial *133# and follow the prompts. You can as well choose to top up your Africell Airtime using MTN Mobile money and use it to buy data.
