The Processor in Apple’s latest products infringes on our patents: University of Wisconsin

Apple has been sued !! The Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) has filed suit against the biggest tech company, citing that all the latest Apple products including the iPhone 5S, iPad mini with Retina Display, and iPad Air having the A7 processor are all benefit from an information processing system developed at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and patented in 1998.

As all lawsuits of this nature in the recent past, they ask for unspecified damages and an injunction stopping the sale of any product where Apple used the A7 processor. The interesting part is that WARF is asking for damages to be tripled because Apple knew of the patent and therefore infringed on it knowingly.

We don’t know if Apple really infringed on the design, and what the details of  the patent even covers. Knowing Apple we believe they may well settle before that point.
