We are gearing towards the 2021 general elections and it is already clear that one ought to have a national ID to cast a vote. The situation has made it a busy season for the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) as scores of people flock the main offices at Kololo Airstrip to register for, pick or make corrections on their national IDs.
However, as the time flies on, there is need to know whether your national ID details do reflect on the national voters’ register to avoid any inconvenience during the time of voting.
How to know if your NIN is on the voters’ register
The Electoral Commission has a portal that stores all voter information based on how you registered for your national identification card.
To find out whether your National ID Number (NIN) is on the register, you can visit the portal here and search by Voter Number, your ApplicationID or NIN – dependign on what you have or know.
In case you have not yet got your national ID processed and need to know your NIN, there is a possibility of getting it from NIRA.
How to get your NIN from NIRA
NIRA put up a simple way to find out your ID details by dialing *216# then select option 3 – to get your NIN. You will be required to enter your details to make a search for any matching records.
You can also find out if you lost your card and it is among those that were found.
How to know your National ID status
To find out how far the body has gone with your national identification card application, you can dial *216#, select option 2 to know ID status, enter your details and the application ID given to you at the time of applying for the ID.
