That annoying and addictive “Flappy Bird”game makes $50k per day in Ad revenue

Despite the horribly intended “super mario” like graphics, this puzzling and surprisingly difficult mobile game Flappy Bird has turned into quite the cash cow for the Vietnamese developer Dong Nguyen. The game that we reviewed recently, was able to score over 10 million downloads within a weekend when it was launched on the Android and iOS platform. The developer has now revealed that his app earns an average of $50,000 per day from in-app ads, in an interview with The Verge.

The catch in this game, is that you’ll very likely spend an hour, even reaching a score of five. I personally have a score of 12 and still struggling on with it. The app has been downloaded 50 million times, and has accumulated over 47,000 reviews in the App Store.

How app got everyone Flappy Birding

    According to  Nguyen,

“The reason Flappy Bird is so popular is that it happens to be something different from mobile games today, and is a really good game to compete against each other, People in the same classroom can play and compete easily because it is simple to learn, but you need skill to get a high score.”

Since the app is cross platform of both Android and iOS, it makes it so  easy to compare scores with friends, as scores can be shared on  Facebook and Twitter. “I want to make an ads-based game because it is very common in the Japanese market — mini games are free and have ads,” Nguyen says. The formula seems to be working. If you have not yet tried it out, download it now Android/iOS.
