Apple said to consider 4.7 and 5.7-inch iPhones and a cheaper model in several colors

Apple could be looking to reinforce its iPhone range considerably over the next year by breaking away from its traditions and adding larger 4.7-inch and 5.7-inch models and cheaper handsets with a wider range of colors, according to sources from Reuters.

While the sources note that Apple’s plans may change, the current schedule reportedly includes an “iPhone 5S” for release later this year alongside the lower-cost $99 model. The media outlet added that
the moves are still under discussion, but represent an attempt to gain back share from arch-competitor Samsung, which has flooded the market with so-called phablets like the Galaxy Note II along with a wide range of inexpensive handsets — neither of which Apple currently makes.

News of a low-cost iPhone was reported by the Wall Street Journal in January, and the paper linked Pegatron a company set to assemble it to the project last month. Apple CEO Tim Cook said in April
that the company would not consider releasing an iPhone with a larger screen at present due to perceived tradeoffs in image quality and battery life.
