Facebook Messenger dark mode is rolling out to globally today

Finally, people will no longer have to moon someone to get Facebook Messenger’s dark mode. Facebook has announced on it’s product blog, that the feature will start rolling out today, so your next Messenger update from the PlayStore or App will have this mode.

The feature was previously hidden behind an Easter egg activation that made users send a crescent moon emoji in order to activate it. Now, users can enable the mode through a toggle switch in their settings, which can be accessed by tapping their profile photo.

In essence, the feature just switches the chat display from white to black, cuts down on glare for use in low-light situations. Dark mode could help save battery on Android phones since it uses less power to display black especially for people with OLED screens.

Others just prefer it for aesthetic reasons. More apps are jumping on the dark mode train, as official support for apps like Twitter and WhatsApp which is still also in better phase. Are you a dark mode fan? Leave us a comment below.
