Xiaomi launches the Redmi Note 7 with 48-megapixels camera

When one brand does the unexpected, another captures it and makes it even better before you know it. Not so long ago, we told you of Huawei’s Nova 4 – coming with a hole-punch and an incredible 48-MP camera.

This particular Nova was the high version estimated to cost about $490 on the market. Xiaomi has done something much better; bringing the Redmi Note 7 with the 48MP camera, at a much less cost.

While the camera exceeds the usual expectations, the Redmi Note 7 is a typical entry-level smartphone carrying a new logo on the back saying “Redmi by Xiaomi.”

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced last week that Redmi will operate as an independent brand focusing on e-commerce and cost efficiency, leaving Xiaomi to concentrate on mid-to high-end phones and physical retail.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 comes with a 13-megapixel front camera, and a dual rear camera setup with a 48-megapixel sensor on the primary and a 5-megapixel for the secondary.

The 48-megapixel lens sports an f/1.8 aperture size with Artificaial Intelligence fully equipped in it as well. It has a 6.3-inch full HD+ display with a water-drop notch design and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC with a Adreno 512 GPU and runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. You can get the Redmi Note 7 in three variants of 3GB/32GB, 4GB/64GB, and 6GB/64GB alongside expandable memory via microSD.

Besides a 4000mAh battery, Xiaomi has made the device’s primary port a USB-C connection, while reserving the headphone jack – a port that numerous brands have done away with.
