Whatsapp Group Calling has been around since mid this year but has been limited to only a few people, four to be specific. This on the other hand has limited how many people can join the call but improvements have been pushed to make the feature even better.
Previously users had to start a one on one call before adding in other participants but WhatsApp has now introduced a new and better way of calling three people at once. Wondering how? Here is how.
Tap the call tab on your WhatsApp app
Option One
-Select the new call button on the top right hand corner of the phone screen
-Select “New Group Call” to add 3 contacts with you making up the fourth one
-Place either a video or voice call depending on preference
Option Two
Visit the WhatsApp Group whose contacts you want to involve in a call
Select the new call button at the top right hand corner of the phone screen to prompt the new call screen.
Add a maximum of 3 contacts and you’re good to go. Select either video or voice call to commence. The only disturbing news about this new update is the inability to select more than 3 contacts with you, the caller being the fourth participant.
This puts the WhatsApp group calling feature in sharp contrast with other IM apps like Skype, Messenger, FaceTime, Duo among others that allow you to call more than 3 people at once.
However given WhatsApp is firstly private even as it makes transition into the business, the 4 contact limitation is still as useful to a small group of users particularly small businesses plus family and friends.
WhatsApp warns that you should have a strong internet connection before you attempt using the new group calling feature. Also, the feature is available for iOS users but will push out to Android users soon.
