WhatsApp delivers Picture-in-Picture feature for all Android Users

Like we had told you earlier, WhatsApp was rolling out the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) feature for Android users, in line with the features adoption on Android Oreo devices.

The platform has now delivered the anticipated feature with a roll out to Android users through the WhatsApp version 2.18.380. WhatsApp for iPhone has been offering an identical experience since January this year.

With Picture-in-Picture, you can watch Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube videos in a small window as you continue to scroll through WhatsApp chats simultaneously.

When you receive a WhatsApp link, the video card along with a blurred thumbnail of the video and the logo of the platform from which it is shared will automatically be made available.

Once the link is tapped the video will be played over in the top half of the chat window. The video can also be converted to full screen and video controls are present below.

WhatsApp will display the video in Picture in Picture mode, so you can continue to navigate in the chat while it is playing. The feature works in individual chats as well as group chats. However, once you switch to a different chat, the PiP will disappear.

All you need to enable the Picture-in-Picture feature is to download the latest version of WhatsApp for Android from Google Play. In case you make the update but still can’t see the feature, then back up your chat history and reinstall WhatsApp.

Note that whenever you reinstall the app, the most updated configurations from the server are downloaded, enabling the latest features.

The update is available for all Android users having Android 4.4 and newer.
