The Startups industry in Uganda has grown from a tough struggle for an innovations award, to incubators fueled sector, to actually driving actual products that the consumers can use. While several institutions like UCC and MTN used to organize innovation camps as a creative ground for new startups in Uganda, 2018 has had none of these with Total’s startupper challenge identifying a clean ground to push new startups to the front with financial support in a continental sprint.

Given the fact that several startups have tried the industry and failed, successful startups in Uganda are recognizable by their efforts and top rendered slots. For instance, the ride-hailing industry is now topped by a Ugandan based startup as the digital banking sector is also geared up by a handful of mobile money alternatives. Well, here is our list of the most successful startups in Uganda.

SafeBoda

In Kampala, If you wish to reach your destination in a rush hour with no extra time wasted while juggling with traffic, a motorbike is the perfect solution. However, the two wheelers were not as safe as they are today with boda hailing firms controlling a favorable percentage of drivers. This is where SafeBoda comes in. It boosts as the current leader in an industry it pioneered here with over 8000 drivers currently registered to the service founded by Alastair Sussock and Ricky Rapa Thompson in 2014.

Fundi Bots

In Africa no one knew robots could be manufactured without flying out to another continent for not extra labour but expertise as well. Through Solomon King Benge, the Robotics dream in Uganda became a reality laying a stable ground for more robotic camps with Fundi Bots maintaining the top slot and one of the  most successful startups in Uganda.

Ensibuko

Ensibuuko is a Fintech startup that aims at microfinance and Sacco solutions with its cross-web software. Founded by a one Gerald Otim and David Opio, the startup cruises with over $500M in equity and a very popular solution in micro banking circles and planning to expand to major parts of Africa.

Ezee Money

As Government plans to implement its lone 0.5% tax bill, mobile money alternatives have never slid back on the domination rate in Uganda as the ultimately free/less charged payment platforms. While Payway launched a client app a few months back. Ezee money is a very successful venture crunching in the same yard with its successful deeds mainly registered by local agents all over East Africa.  Co-founded by one Kevin Lubega in 2012, currently the company grosses with over $50 million annually giving it a favorable slot against a similar bullet fast startup Pebuu.

Tugende

Majority of the Boda hailing drivers in Kampala cruise around with the latest motorbikes consuming less fuel before the electric generation comes to life in Uganda. However, this might not have been possible on a wide scale had it not been for Tugende and several 2wheeler schemes in Uganda. Tugende ranks as the most popular 2Wheeler asset finance scheme to date with several funding coming in from foreign bodies like OPIC that previously injected $12 million into the startup founded by Michael Wilkerson 6 years ago.

Just like any other technology square, the startups industry is a fast moving venture that is slowly changing the world with Silicon valley startups like Facebook and Google redefining the Internet.
