Cabinet on 10th of this month voted to let go of some govt agencies that had duplicate roles as those of other departments within their respective mother ministries. Other reasons for this decision were to align their functions, structures, budgets etc for efficiency, eliminate functional ambiguities, overlaps and duplication, wasteful expenditures, harmonization of wages between agency employees and those in the traditional public service among others.
Roles of the affected agencies and commissions will therefore go back to their respective ministries while the unfortunate ones will be merged into single entities and others will be dissolved.
Government is preparing an omnibus bill through the Justice ministry to reverse the laws that led to the creation of many of these agencies and commissions. The Bill is said to be introduced as early as next week.
