Have you ever drunkenly emailed a message that was supposed to go to your wife, but you mistakenly send it to your landlord somehow? There are even worse situations where you would want to recall an already sent email. Fortunately, the Gmail Undo send feature has come to the Android mobile app.
For many years, Google’s Undo Send feature has been in existence, saving people from embarrassing mistakes on the web version of Gmail. However, the mobile app is starting to get some of these features too. After getting confidential mode, it’s time to recall some emails.
Recalling messages was only available in the company’s Inbox app for the 75% of Gmail users who access their accounts from mobile devices. If making mistakes was, well, your thing, you had to use Inbox rather than using the main Gmail app. However, the main app has got the feature too.
How Gmail Undo Send Works
‘Undo Send’ allows people using Gmail to cancel a sent mail if they have second thoughts immediately after sending. The feature is turned on by default for those currently using the latest Android version.
It works by applying a time delay on sent emails to let you annul them inside 10 seconds if you happened to thoughtlessly fire it out with a blunder in plain sight. It mysterious absence from the official Gmail client has come to an end in version 8.7.
Just like the confidential mode, you don’t need to update anything since this is a server-side update. If the feature doesn’t show up properly, you may need to restart your gmail app even if you are running version 8.7.
After the major redesign, Google is trying to bring some of the web version only features to mobile. This is a no brainer since most people access their emails through mobile.
