These are the new 2018 GOtv subscription rates per package

Since its launch in 2011, GOtv has been serving the Ugandan market with affordable digital TV. The Multichoice affiliated Pay TV provider targets budget consumers with appetite for TV but can’t afford the marque DSTV brand. It is also MultiChoice’s effort to compete in low price segment of the Pay TV business which has players like Startimes and other Free To Air providers. However, the recent GOtv Subscription rates are deviating away from the low-cost segment.

GOtv has premium and compelling content some of which you might not find anywhere else. But does this justify increasing their subscription rates?

UCC and Pay TV providers have had differences this year as regarding the licensing regime. However, the commission managed to settle some of the problems with the Pay TV providers. Consequently, the new licensing regime came into effect, increasing Pay TV licences.

This may be the reason why GOTv subscription rates have increased.

GOtv Subscription Rates effective 1 August 2018

Dear GOgetters, please be advised effective Wednesday, 1 August 2018, GOtv subscription rates per package will be as below.

    1. GOtv Max – UGX 49,000
    2. GOtv Plus – UGX 28,000
    3. GOtv Value – UGX 16,000
    4. GOtv Lite 1 – UGX 11,000
    5. GOtv Lite 3 – UGX 25,000
    6. GOtv Lite 12 – UGX 70,000

Whenever a Pay TV raises the price of its subscription plans, we keep hearing about disgruntled users ready to leave the service because of the price increase. However, GOtv remains incredibly affordable even with this price increase.

If you consider the ever-growing size of channels and content catalog, maybe its enough reason to justify the price increase. However, an increase in the prices and a decrease in the price of competitors may cause drastic effects to GOtv.

We are yet to see how competitors react to GOtv Subscription rates increase. Consumers are tolerant as long as something’s improving. Maybe this price increase will be met with an improved content arsenal.
