Last week, we reported about Smile Communications experiencing massive network outages due to disputes with tower providers. However, full network has been restored after Smile Communications and Eaton Towers representatives held a meeting at UCC house.
Smile Communications service outage resulted from a failure in resolving a standing financial dispute with some of their tower providers. Consequently, the tower providers opted to disable connectivity throughout the various base stations in areas such as Ntinda, Kiwatule, Bugolobi, etc.
Smile Communications is one of Uganda’s longest serving 4G LTE Internet Service Providers. This year, they introduced offers like Snack bundle and SmileChakala Bundles to add to their succulent arsenal.
The network outage came at a time when the company had announced that it would pay social media tax for its customers for the next 3 months. Surely, the black out caused some unhappy faces on smile customers.
The company resorted to amicable engagement with the tower provider the to resolve this issue and avoid any further disruption of services.
Smile has been linked to closure but it has continued in business nonetheless. Before Vodafone finally closed Ugandan operations, it first experienced network outages. Smart Uganda has suffered the same network problems.
UCC confrims Smile Communications meeting with tower provider
UCC said that the two held an arbitration meeting and resolved administrative issues that recently affected the delivery of communication services to Smile customers.
