These are the latest UMEME and Yaka Power tariffs 2018

UMEME yaka power grid

Effective 27th December 2017, the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) notified UMEME of a new tariff of a new electricity tariff base rates that will be applicable through 2018. This was done in line with the Electricity (Application for Permits, License and Tariff Review) Regulations, 2007 and the Electricity Act, 1999 (Cap 145 of the Laws of Uganda), the Electricity Regulatory.

Authority (ERA) reviewed and approved electricity tariffs in accordance with the principles of tariff calculation and the terms of supply of the licensees in the Electricity Supply Industry. Umeme Limited is required to inform its customers of the tariffs approved by ERA.

Domestic consumers

This applies to Low Voltage single phase supplied at 240 volts

  1. First 15 kWh in a month- 150 Shs/ kWh
  2. Above 15 kWh in a month- 718.9 Shs/ kWh

Street Lighting

Average- 701.9 Shs/ kWh

Commercial Consumers

This applies to 3-phase low voltage load not exceeding 100 Amperes supplied at 415 volts

  1. Peak –  839.6 Shs/ kWh
  2. Shoulder – 646.3 Shs/ kWh
  3. Off- Peak- 401.4 Shs/ kWh
  4. Average –648.3 Shs/ kWh

Medium Industrial Consumers

This applies to low voltage supplied at 415 volts, with maximum demand up to 500kVA

  1. Peak –  766.2 Shs/ kWh
  2. Shoulder – 589.8 Shs/ kWh
  3. Off- Peak- 366.1 Shs/ kWh
  4. Average –592.5 Shs/ kWh

Large Industrial Consumers

High voltage 11000 volts or 33,000 volts with maximum demand exceeding 500 kVA but up to 1,500 kVA

  1. Peak –  497.1 Shs/ kWh
  2. Shoulder – 382.6 Shs/ kWh
  3. Off- Peak- 247.7 Shs/ kWh
  4. Average –375.5 Shs/ kWh

Extra Large Industrial Consumers

High voltage 11,000 volts or 33,000 volts with maximum demand exceeding 1,500 kVA and dealing in manufacturing

  1. Peak –  491.8 Shs/ kWh
  2. Shoulder – 378.5 Shs/ kWh
  3. Off- Peak- 246.5 Shs/ kWh
  4. Average –371.1 Shs/ kWh

It should be noted that Electricity retail base tariffs are subject to quarterly adjustment to reflect changes in micro-economic cost drivers. The first monthly 15 kWh for the domestic customers is charged at a lifeline tariff of shs 150 per kWh. All other fixed monthly charges (e.g inspection fees, reconnection fees, etc) by UMEME will remain unchanged.
