YouTube Music Awards nominees announced: Obviously its not an African affair –yet

YouTube announced early this month, that it will kickstart its first-ever Music Awards — in a live event that will be in the US,  New York City to be precise on November 3rd featuring performances that they claim to be from across the planet. We  expect the entertainment from top musicians like Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga, Miley Cirus, Arcade Fire, and Kendrick Lamar. There are six nominated categories and the nominees were picked based on YouTube data collected between September 2012 and August 2013, with parameters like shares, comments, subscriptions, likes, and other YouTube fan engagement stats guiding the choices. So using such metrics don’t expect any nominations from our beloved African continent. For me its more of a US based event.

Among the six categories include video and artist of the year, “response” of the year (which YouTube says are top unofficial fan videos), YouTube phenomenon (pulling together trends like Harlem Shake, Gangnam Style, we were expecting Alingo Dance in this category but all in vain and other songs that generated a huge fan video response), YouTube breakthrough, and innovation of the year. Based on the categories listed Unsurprisingly, the list of nominees is highlighted by huge American pop stars. If you want to take you pick and vote, you can go to the  YouTube’s official Music Awards page for more.
