    Ugandan startup Intelworld offered $60,000 funding at Sparkup! Live

    Ugandan startup Intelworld, which builds systems allowing business to transact with mobile devices, was offered $60,000 in funding from investors at the Sparkup! Live pitching event held this week in Cape Town. The money was given by Paul Rutherford, Silicon Cape Chairperson, Daniel Guasco and Matthew Bresler to Allan Rwakatungu of IntelWorld.

    The Sparkup! Live competition was set to take place, with five startups – Tyrenet, Erato, IntelWorld, Vula Mobile and Gummie – looking to follow in the footsteps of Ekaya, 8Bit and Shopstar, who all earned funding last year. Ultimately Intelworld and Vula were funded.

    In Uganda, Intel world has a huge client list including the big telecoms companies like MTN and Airtel with whom they working with  to develop an innovative contactless and remote payments solution for merchants using NFC tags. They have also done some work for Mbet, a licensed sports betting company that offers its services over multiple mobile channels including features phones (USSD), smartphones and Point of Sale.
