Last month, MTN Uganda was slapped with a UGX 5 billion fine from the regulator UCC over abuse of shortcodes for loading airtime and checking airtime balance. MTN complied to the regulator’s directive, but it seems some of it’s subscribers having a hard time to adjust. So if you are having a hard time cramming all the new USSD codes like *133# or *131#, that will no longer be an issue as the MTN UG Assistant Android app has been crafted for just this purpose. To help you access MTN Uganda’s USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) services. With this 863k app, you will no longer need to memorize those complicated USSD codes anymore.
According to the app change log, you will be able to access the following services:
- Borrowing Airtime
- Activating Data Bundles
- Activating Call Bundles
- Changing Tariff Plans
- Check Account Status
- Use Mobile Money Services
The app makers, Xibra Digital have also requested the users to recommend any changes and give them some feedback on your experience. Such apps are not new in new in the telecom space, as recently Airtel Uganda released its Airtel Money app for Android users and Orange/ Africell customers have always had the My Orange App that does what this MTN app exactly does.
