Vodafone Uganda launches mobile voice call service: Here are the charges

Uganda’s latest telecom company, Vodafone Uganda has today unleashed its voice packages to supplement the exiting 4G-LTE internet service. The firms becomes one of the new entrants in what most people believe to be a crowded voice market in Uganda and will be riding on Uganda Telecom’s existing 2G and 3G network, as an Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). This means that Vodafone customers will make calls and data using UTL’s network especially when they are out of Vodafone’s coverage footprint.

Vodafone has kept it simple and straight forward, are basically two plans: The core plan or the 0732 Talk plan

With the core plan, calls will cost UGX 5 per second which is UGX 300 per minute and SMS costs UGX 99 at a minimum top-up of UGX 3,000. This means with the core plan will last you 10 minutes of call time.

Vodafone Uganda to boost Unlimited data plans in Uganda

The company has also today unleashed a new unlimited data plan which costs UGX 149,900  and capped at 2 mbps. This is fairly a great deal compared carriers like Africell charge UGX 299,000 capped at 512kbps and UTL charges UGX 210,000 at 1 Mbps for it’s unlimited plan. The big telecom giants MTN Uganda and Airtel Uganda have strategically dodged the unlimited plan topic but at this rate we shall see them introducing their own bundles.
