    The telecom sector in Uganda is just getting hotter and Airtel Uganda has vowed to undertake measures that will strengthen its foundations to stay competitive in the telecommunications sector. Now that they are second biggest telecommunications company with a subscriber base of 7.2 million with MTN Uganda at 10 million subscribers, the company has to strategize to step up its game especially in the data market.

    The company’s new managing director, Mr Tom Gutjahr, told business leaders in Kampala on Tuesday that the changes in management and operations at the firm are tailored to catapult the telecom company to the top. The company will also prioritize data usage. He said

    The Ugandan data market is still an open book currently dominated by the likes of Orange Uganda, Smile and MTN, Airtel also wants a piece of that pie.  Airtel Uganda is part of Bharti Airtel, and currently holds the world’s fourth largest mobile phone operator. In Uganda Airtel Uganda was boosted by the Warid Meger to become number two on the market.
